    What to Do Right Away

First, get your drone out of the water quickly so the water can’t go any deeper into the drone.

If you don’t act quickly, the drone’s electronic components can be further damaged by the water. Some drones have a short-circuit detector that automatically switches the drone off if it detects water, but not all drones have this feature.

After getting the drone out of the water, turn off the drone and remove the batteries. Lithium-ion batteries are easily damaged by water, which can lead to a short circuit.

Lastly, don’t forget to take pictures with your cell phone—it’s always a smart way to document damage.

    FAQ
    Can a drone survive water?

Waterproof drones do exist, but most of them are not made to be used in a wet environment. The first thing to do if your drone gets wet is disconnect the power supply, then dry it with a hairdryer or wrap it in a dry cloth.

What happens when a drone gets wet?

Typically, when a drone is harmed by water, the conductors of the motor fuse, and then the lithium-ion batteries get damaged. Also, saltwater is more damaging than fresh water because the salt in saltwater corrodes metal much faster than fresh water.

How much does it cost for a drone water damage repair?

Several factors affect the cost of repairing a water-damaged drone including:

    • The type of drone.
    • The repair shop’s prices.
    • The severity of the damage.
    • The cost of the replacement parts.

In general, you can expect to pay anywhere from $100-$500.
